Cathay voted No.1 at World Travel Awards
Cathay Pacific was voted Asia’s Leading Airline at first ever World Travel Awards Asia and Indian Ocean Ceremony last night in Shanghai. The Hong Kong carrier topped a poll of over 167,000 travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organizations in over 160 countries across the globe.Other airline winners at the prestigious awards ceremony included Singapore Changi Airport - “Asia’s Leading Airport”, Air China - “China’s Leading Airline”, Air India - “India’s Leading Airline Award”, and Pan Pacific - “Kuala Lumpur Airport”.
The inaugural World Travel Awards Asia and Indian Ocean Ceremony, held at the swissộtel GRAND Shanghai, is regarded as the ‘Olympics’ of the global industry, spotlighting the ‘best of the best’ in travel.
The top travel executives in Asia and the Indian Ocean attended the glittering evening ceremony. Miss World, Chinese Zi Lin Zhang, was the Guest of Honour, and presented some of the key awards, whilst TV presenter Varun Sharma from BBC World was the host.
The Asian and Indian Ocean Ceremony was part of a World Travel Awards Grand Tour with regional awards staged throughout the world, ending with a Grand Final at Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean on 12 December 2008.
