Fairmont St Andrews ready to unveil refurb

30th May 2008

The five-star hotel and golf resort, Fairmont St Andrews, is set to complete a major £13.5m refurbishment in June 2008.Part of the prestigious international Fairmont hotel group, the 209-bedroom hotel has already completed 115 new luxury bedrooms, including 17 exclusive suites, as well as upgrading the exceptional conference facilities and public areas such as the lounge, corridors and main reception. The new Fairmont Spa, one of only a few to offer an exclusive range of Kerstin Florian treatments, will open in mid-June.

The hotel has a spectacular setting on Scotland’s stunning Fife coast, overlooking the North Sea and the historic town of St Andrews. Already one of the country’s most successful resorts, this investment by the owners, Apollo Real Estate, will enhance the hotel’s global reputation for golf, leisure and conferences. Charles Head, general manager, said:

“It is a tremendous opportunity for such a new property to enjoy this level of investment. As a result of the programme, which touches every area of the hotel, we will be able to offer international, UK and local visitors a world-class experience at Fairmont St Andrews.”

The interiors of the 115 new luxury bedrooms have been designed to reflect the colours and character of the local landscape, with warm earthy tones and signature Scottish touches such as chic tweeds and tartans. The lobby, hallways, atrium and existing bar, Kittocks Den, have also been significantly upgraded and a lively, sports-themed bar, the Rock and Spindle, has been introduced. These complement the established Club House and fine dining restaurant, Esperante.

The interiors in the new spa, which, when it opens in mid-June, will be the only Fairmont Spa in the UK, also mirror the coastal location with pebble floors, contemporary driftwood sculptures and fabrics echoing the colours of surrounding countryside. The spa includes a couple’s suite where two people can enjoy treatments side by side, an exclusively male treatment room and a private three-room suite, ‘a spa within a spa’, for intimate groups who want to share the experience. There will also be a dedicated pedicure and manicure suite, and a relaxation lounge. In addition to an exclusive range of Kerstin Florian treatments, the Fairmont Spa has created a signature range of locally-themed massage, facial and relaxation therapies. The fitness centre and swimming pool have also been enhanced, with a 28-piece fitness suite with personal tvs, new locker room facilities, and a studio providing a wide range of classes such as spinning and yoga.

Following major investment, the 15,000sq ft conference centre now offers flexible, world-class meeting spaces for all sizes of events and is one of the leading resort conference facilities in the United Kingdom. With two four-bedroom private Manor Homes for management or VIPs, state-of-the-art meeting space and a superlative menu of onsite activities, Fairmont St Andrews is an exceptional venue for conferences.

Apollo Real Estate is also investing significantly in the hotel’s world-renowned golf course, The Torrance, which has been recognised as a Local Final Qualifying Course for The Open in 2010.
