US Airways reveals key appointments

US Airways has promoted Captain Lyle Hogg to the position of Vice President, Flight Operations, and named James Olson to the position of Vice President, Corporate Communications. Both officer appointments were approved today by the airline’s Board of Directors.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Jim to our team and to recognize the contributions of Lyle,” said Chairman and CEO Doug Parker.

In their new appointments, Hogg, 53, will report to Senior Vice President, Flight Operations/InFlight Captain Ed Bular, while Olson, 39, will report to Senior Vice President, People, Communications and Culture Elise Eberwein.

Hogg previously held the position of Managing Director, Flight Operations. In his new position, he assumes responsibility for the airline’s flight technical operations and flight training groups, and will maintain his oversight of the airline’s operations specifications operations compliance with all FAA requirements.

Hogg is a 24-year US Airways veteran and is an experienced pilot on the BAC 1-11, DC9, the Boeing 737-200/300/400 and the Airbus A320 family. In 1996, he was named assistant chief pilot at the airline’s Washington, D.C. crew base. He was named Managing Director, Flight Operations in 2005, where his primary duties were to oversee the airline’s seven pilot domiciles and 5,000 pilots.

Hogg has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

“Lyle is an outstanding leader and an experienced, knowledgeable flight operations executive,” said Bular. “We look forward to his continued leadership among our pilots and his new contributions over our flight operations training and technical teams.”

Career Highlights and New Responsibilities for James Olson

Olson will lead the airline’s internal and external communications, and joins US Airways from Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, a Seattle-based global public relations agency. At Waggener Edstrom, Olson served as senior vice president, where he helped establish and lead the firm’s corporate and digital practices. Prior to joining Waggener Edstrom, Olson was Vice President, Corporate Communications at Overture Services, Inc., which merged with Yahoo! in 2003. Olson spent the first nine years of his communications career in the automotive industry, where he consulted for Nissan North America. He started his career at J.D. Power and Associates in 1992.

Olson received his Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Syracuse University and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

“Jim’s extensive communications background and experience, particularly in the digital domain, provides a nice complement to our communications team. We look forward to his perspective and the implementation of new ideas that will help us better communicate to our internal and external audiences,” said Eberwein.
