Lufthansa posts record passenger figures

In the first three months of 2008, Lufthansa carried a record number of passengers,
continuing the positive momentum achieved last year into the current financial year.Passenger numbers rose by 5.5
per cent to 13 million in the first quarter. During the same period, available
capacity was increased by 5.5 per cent. Revenue seat-kilometres climbed 5.9 per
cent, lifting the passenger load factor

From January to March, the Lufthansa Group airlines carried a total of 16 million
passengers. This represents a year-on-year increase of about 30 per cent. SWISS
alone reported three million
passengers in the first quarter. The number of flights operated by Lufthansa Group
airlines climbed to 195,625, which is equivalent to 20 per cent growth.

Lufthansa Cargo also improved its performance in terms of cargo volume and capacity
utilisation in the first quarter. The Lufthansa subsidiary transported 429,000
tonnes of freight and mail, 0.4 per
