Lufthansa kicks off Bristol flights

Lufthansa’s new service between Bristol and Frankfurt got off to a flying start as a troupe of acrobats and a string quartet helped launch the morning flights. Passengers joined guests for a VIP breakfast of champagne and canapés as the check-in desks opened.

The three times a day service not only provides a direct link to the Germany’s financial centre but the timings have also been scheduled to offer quick and easy onward connections to Lufthansa’s worldwide network which now offers 14,224 flights a week to 207 destinations in 81 countries.

Launching the new service Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa General Manager UK and Ireland, said: “Today is a very special day for Lufthansa as it marks the beginning for our first new UK destination for nine years. I would like to thank everyone at Bristol International Airport for their hard work and co-operation in helping bring this new service through the planning stage to become a reality. Together we are providing a new ‘Gateway to the World’ for both business and leisure travellers in the South West.

“Lufthansa’s passenger growth in the UK and Ireland has been exceptional for the past two years and it proves that huge numbers of travellers still want the added value they receive from a full service airline. They like to know the ticket cost includes good quality food and drink on board the aircraft as well as allowing them to check-in at the airport and take a reasonable amount of luggage at no extra cost. And, unlike many of our competitors, Lufthansa fares include all taxes and charges.

“We also know there is a huge demand for this service from our existing business customers in the South West. We already have 11,000 members of our ‘Miles and More’ frequent flyer programme within an hour of Bristol International Airport and this is a direct response to meet their needs. The Bristol area includes the headquarters of a number of global companies - including Airbus, HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland), Hewlett-Packard, Knorr-Bremse, Orange and Rolls-Royce - who will now be able to take advantage of Lufthansa’s reputation for punctuality and efficiency from their local airport. Our Frankfurt hub also offers quick and easy onward connections to both our European and world-wide network with a range of highly competitive fares for both business and leisure travellers.”
