Virgin America unveils San Diego plan

Virgin America has launched service between its base of San
Francisco International Airport and San Diego International Airport.Beginning today, Virgin America will offer three daily flights to
SAN, expanding to five daily flights on March 9. Convenient connecting
flights also are available from SAN via SFO from New York’s JFK
International and Washington Dulles International airports.

  “As California’s home-town airline, we’re bringing cutting-edge
technology and the best in entertainment to the skies and we’re thrilled to
now link two of the state’s most beautiful cities,” said Virgin America
President and CEO David Cush. “We think that San Diegans will find that
stepping on to a Virgin America plane is unlike any flight experience
they’ve had before.”

With power outlets and a video touch-screen at every seat, Virgin
America offers guests interactive, on-demand entertainment and in-flight
services. Virgin America’s brand new planes were created with the
tech-savvy traveler in mind and the Red(TM) In-flight Entertainment system
allows guests to control what and when they want to eat with a food
ordering system on their individual seatback touch-screen. Guests also have
access to live TV, 25 films, 3,000 MP3s, videogames and a seat-to-seat chat
feature. Virgin America’s SFO-SAN fares start at $39* one way in the Main
Cabin and $149** one way in First Class.

The inaugural celebration begins with a send-off reception featuring a
San Diego-style surf band and a ribbon cutting on the new route at the San
Francisco departure gate, where Mr. Cush and Virgin Group Founder and
Chairman Sir Richard Branson will welcome VIP guests on the airline’s first
flight to San Diego.

Virgin America’s unique moodlighting will set the tone for a
Valentine’s themed inaugural flight. With the airline’s signature
“Vir-million” champagne cocktails and a San Francisco couple who actually
met on a Virgin America flight, there will also be plenty of flirty
in-flight text messaging in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Upon arrival at San Diego International Airport, the plane will receive
a traditional water-cannon salute, followed by a red carpet welcome on the
tarmac with San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and the world-famous Charger

Later that evening, The Ivy Hotel’s Envy Nightclub in the Gas Lamp
District will host a swanky “Love Virgin America Style” party with a red
carpet entrance, Justin Timberlake’s DJ Mark Da Spot, as well as a bevy of
San Diego and Hollywood celebs like Kendra Wilkinson from E!‘s The Girls
Next Door. Virgin America’s trademark cabin mood-lighting and seat-to-seat
chat stations will be re-created for the event.

The fun doesn’t stop at the end of the night as guests take home some
love with celebrity swag bags crafted by Madison and Mulholland, filled
with goodies like Bucky 40 winks eye masks, Harry & David Valentine
truffles, Skype cards and much more.
