ITV expands travel news service

The UK’s ITV has unveiled exciting expansion plans for its new Traffic and Travel news service for ITV Local.ITV Local has teamed up with the Highways Agency and Transport for London to put more than 1,200 road traffic cameras online. The traffic cams give motorists a snapshot of the nations’ road hold-ups, updated every few minutes.

As well as being the first broadcaster to be granted access to the cameras on such a scale, to create a completely user-friendly experience, ITV Local has placed a heavy emphasis on the overall look and feel of the website giving a truly useful and distinctive service that is second to none.


“It’s a real plus for motorists to be able see exactly what’s happening on motorways and trunk roads. But our travel service is much more than that. Our aim is a one-stop-shop for travel - with information that’s easy to access and easy to use”, said ITV Local Project Manager Nick Haworth.



In addition to the traffic cams the services focus on four key areas:


- Interactive Traffic Mapping displaying road-works, hold-ups and speed restrictions in real-time on an interactive map of England and Wales


- Rail, Air and Sea news with real-time data feeds of major public transport delays


- Travel Links providing users with easy access local travel related websites


- And for regions in the London travel-to-work area Live Tube Service Updates provided by Transport for London


The launch gives every ITV region its own dedicated online traffic and travel service. ITV Local’s Director of Programming and Content, Lindsay Charlton, said, “Travel stories have always been one of the staples of ITV1’s regional news programmes. Launching travel news online gives ITV a really comprehensive service that can deliver trusted traffic and travel news whenever people need it and at a really local level”
