Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Technik AG have signed the wide-ranging cooperation agreement in Vienna, sealing their long-term collaboration. This cooperation agreement will enable a considerable increase in utilisation and efficiency in the maintenance and workshops division. Every year, Lufthansa Technik AG provides a comprehensive dispatching in C-Checks and maintenance work as well as in the aircraft components section at Austrian Airlines. Austrian Airlines aims to use the deeper cooperation to reduce its overall technical costs from 2009 onwards by c. €15 million per annum, securing the location of the Austrian Airlines Technical Services Division in Vienna for the long term.
Austrian Chief Financial Officer Thomas Kleibl said the following as the contract was signed in Vienna: “I am very happy that, through this agreement, we have been able to create a solid foundation for the future. The Technical Services Division of Austrian Airlines is an internationally renowned, hi-tech aircraft maintenance operation producing a top quality service, and will continue to maintain its own identity. The contract does not provide for financial interlocking between Austrian and Lufthansa Technik. However, the strategic cooperation will enable us to reduce our overall technical costs, essential if we are to maintain Vienna as a competitor location in this sector of the industry.”
Dr. Thomas Stüger, Executive Board Product and Service of Lufthansa Technik AG: “By signing the cooperation agreement, we are continuing our successful collaboration with the Technical Services Division of Austrian Airlines, something we can also build upon in the future. The cooperation will enable us to expand the range of service products we provide for our customers.”
Until now, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Technik have been working together within the framework of a cooperation agreement in individual maintenance sections (A330/A340).
