Okura plans Macau project

Mr. M. P. van Aelst, President & General Manager of Hotel Okura Amsterdam and Board Member of the Hotel Okura Company, has announced that September 2009 will see the opening of Hotel Okura Macau. Harmen Dubbelaar, currently the Assistant Manager of Hotel Okura Amsterdam, will be the Opening General Manager.


Mr Dubbelaar began his career at Hotel Okura Amsterdam in 1979. In 1989 he left for China, where as Assistant General Manager he was involved with the opening of the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai. In 1998 he returned to Hotel Okura Amsterdam as Rooms Division Director. He has been the Deputy General Manager there since January 2007.

The 400-room Hotel Okura Macau will have its own bar and club lounge as well as two restaurants, one of which will be opened 24 hours per day. The hotel will be part of the giant, 15-million-square-foot Galaxy entertainment complex. The resort has a 700-table casino, one of world’s largest wave pools, a spa and various exercise rooms.

Hotel Okura Company has been contracted by the Galaxy Entertainment Group to manage Hotel Okura Macau. The Chinese peninsula of Macau is the fastest growing entertainment area in the world, expecting 42 million visitors in 2010.
