Delta expands Caribbean presence

Delta Air Lines is enhancing its successful global service from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Central America and the Caribbean with five new flights to the region beginning this week. These flights complement the airlines’ service to 33 international destinations from JFK, and UK travellers will be able to take full advantage of these routes as Delta offers daily non-stop flights from London Gatwick and Manchester to New York JFK, and as of March 2008, daily nonstop flights from London Heathrow.

The new flights from JFK to Latin America and the Caribbean include: Panama City, Panama (effective Dec. 13); Guatemala City, Guatemala (effective Dec. 14); Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (effective Dec. 20); San Jose, Costa Rica* (effective Feb. 15) and Liberia, Costa Rica* (effective Feb. 16).

In addition, Delta recently filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to add nonstop service between JFK and Bogota, Colombia. The filing also includes a request to add flights between Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Medellin and Cali.

“From June 2006 and February 2008, Delta will have added nine new destinations between JFK and Latin America and the Caribbean- the most comprehensive and unique expansion by a U.S. carrier,” said Tony Batista, Delta Sales manager. “We remain committed to meeting demand for service from Latin America and the Caribbean to New York and destinations worldwide.”

To Latin America and the Caribbean, Delta already offers nonstop flights between New York JFK and Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Jamaica, Bahamas; and St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.


From December 2007 through April 2008, Delta also will begin service from Atlanta to Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago (effective Dec.15.); Curacao (effective Dec. 22.); Queretaro, Mexico (effective Jan. 14); Bonaire (effective Feb. 9); and St. Kitts* (effective Feb. 16).  In February, Delta starts flying nonstop to Cancun from Raleigh, N.C., and Orlando, Fla; and on April 12 from Harford, Conn.

Since 2006, Delta has invested more than $50 million in facilities at JFK and plans continued improvements in 2008, including:
Increasing the number of security and check-in lines to further expedite the immigration and customs processes

Expanding the check-in area with more counters and kiosks for Economy Class passengers at Terminal 3 and enhancing the newly opened exclusive check-in area for BusinessElite, First Class and Medallion members at Terminal 2

Improving airport concessions at Terminal 3

Smoothing our operational schedule to improve on-time performance
In addition to the increased number of destinations in Delta’s 2008 plan, passengers can enjoy improved ground service at JFK through more self-service check-in kiosks for international flights, personalized service through the increased number of Red Coat agents throughout the terminal, continued improvements to the Crown Rooms and BusinessElite lounges and complimentary helicopter transport services from Manhattan to JFK for BusinessElite members.
