United pledges support to Cancer Society

United Airlines and the American Cancer Society are inviting individuals across the country to send GUND teddy bears and smiles to kids undergoing cancer treatment. Mileage Plus members can contribute to the American Cancer Society a minimum of 7,500 Mileage Plus miles, and anyone can make a tax-deductible, minimum contribution of $50, to send the adorable, 17-inch, stuffed animal Kenny Hugyou (can-he-hug-you) to a child with cancer. Customers can visit united.com/bearhug to send bears to kids undergoing treatment.

“Cancer is an important issue to our customers and employees, and we know it touches everyone in some way,” says Sonya Jackson, President - United Airlines Foundation. “We are looking forward to delivering Kenny Hugyou and smiles to kids across the country.”

Funds and Mileage Plus miles raised by Kenny Hugyou will support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to eliminate cancer as a life-threatening disease, educate individuals about cancer prevention, support those with the disease, and fund research to find new and better treatments.

Contributions are being accepted through December, and Kenny Hugyou SM bears are scheduled to be delivered in February 2008.  Individuals contributing a minimum of $250 to the American Cancer Society through this initiative will receive a Kenny Hugyou of their own in addition to sending one to a child undergoing cancer treatment.
