Hertz is appointing Nick Purkis as European Risk and Insurance Manager.  Nick joins Hertz from Pickfords Removals (part of the global SIRVA Group), where he designed and implemented an award-winning fleet risk management programme.  Prior to this, Nick has worked in the insurance industry for over 15 years, in both claims handling divisions and corporate insurance departments.

Within Hertz, Nick will be responsible for working with all divisions of the business to implement a strategy for risk management, as well as having conduct of the pan-European insurance arrangements, across Hertz’s eight European corporate businesses.

European Director of Risk, Insurance and Claims Management, Patrick Smith said: “I am delighted to have Nick on board.  His work in the field of risk management has been recognised widely and I know that in bringing his experience to Hertz, we will be able to add significant value and financial advantage to the Hertz business and to our growing portfolio of external claims management customers.”

Nick said: “Working for Hertz is going to be a very exciting challenge, with operations right across Europe and such a significant and diverse fleet. We are expanding our claims handling services in Europe and this will give me an opportunity to further develop the risk models I have previously worked on.”

Nick Purkis received the Fleet News Fleet Risk Management Award in both 2006 and 2007, was Highly Commended as European Young Risk Manager of the Year 2006 at the Strategic Risk Awards, as well as winning the Fleet Safety Forum Road Risk Manager of the Year Award in 2006 and being Highly Commended in 2007.  Nick was also the principle architect behind Pickfords’ fleet safety training programme, which was awarded the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2006.  In March 2007, Nick was appointed a Department for Transport (DfT) “Driving for Work Business Champion” to act as an advisor on behalf of the DfT to companies and organisations who want to implement a Fleet Risk Management Strategy.
