GetThere introduces green functionality

22nd Oct 2007

GetThere unveiled GetThere Green, a unique set of enhancements that allow corporations to integrate environmentally focused travel policies. Available to corporations and agency resellers, GetThere Green enables companies to integrate their carbon emission data and supplier green status, and deliver relevant messaging at the point of sale to educate travelers about the carbon footprint of their journey and impact choices they make in the booking process.

Corporate travelers using GetThere booked more than 10 million business trips online in 2006.

Available today to GetThere users on any GDS, GetThere Green has three key components:

* Integration of Carbon Data - Corporations can embed a calculator into the booking process, helping travelers track their emissions. Companies can consult with GetThere on the algorithms behind the various carbon calculators, and then select the calculator of their choice. By giving companies the option to choose, they can implement a technology that best fits their green policy and employee base.

* Supplier Designation - Air, auto, hotel and rail suppliers with company-blessed designation as a “Green Partner” can be highlighted on the screen travelers use to peruse trip options.

* Dynamic Messaging - Recent technology provides messaging opportunities at key junctures in the shopping process. Companies can use messaging to share anticipated emissions between city pairs, or merely to point out which suppliers and/or properties in a given destination are sustainable.

“Our heritage of providing corporations with alternatives as they consider new policies continues with GetThere Green,” said Suzanne Neufang, vice president of product strategy for GetThere. “This new toolkit gives corporations options as they move along the curve from simply educating travelers about their carbon footprint to implementing policy guidelines that drive selection of eco-friendly suppliers.”

GetThere introduced the GetThere Green package to the business travel community today at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives Global Education Conference in Munich, Germany. Last week, GetThere Green earned commendation from the Institute of Travel Management and its first-ever Project ICARUS Environmental Awards, a program recognizing green achievements among business travel industry suppliers.

“Our employees are truly motivated by corporate social responsibility, and travel is an area where we believe we can have an impact,” said Walt Tressler, business services manager at Kentucky-based Brown-Forman Corporation. “The messaging option of GetThere Green has tremendous potential to influence traveler behavior - we look forward to experimenting with this functionality.”

“Environmental responsibility is an essential component of an overall program to ensure good corporate citizenship,” said Ellen Hanzl, director of corporate travel at New York-based CA, Inc., a leading business software company. “The GetThere Green service dovetails with our plans for a green travel program.”
