Air France KLM boosts online baggage option

More international customers of Air France KLM are now able to purchase additional baggage allowance when checking in online as the airline extends the service to all international sites offering Internet check-in.

A 30% discount (compared with the price applied at the airport) is granted on all destinations subject to the weight concept, i.e. most Air France and KLM destinations. This service is available from 30 hours before departure up to the Latest Check-In Time on flights operated by Air France, Brit Air, CityJet, Régional and on leased flights.

When customers check in online, they receive personalized information on their allocated baggage allowance, depending on their destination (which determines the number of bags or the weight of the baggage transported free of charge) and their class of travel.

Over and above this allowance, customers may purchase an additional allowance in just a few clicks.

On destinations subject to the weight concept: They choose the number of kilos they wish to buy (in lots of 5 kg up to a maximum of 50 kg). The price reduced by 30% compared with the price applied at the airport appears instantly on the screen.

On destinations subject to the piece concept: Customers choose the number of additional bags they wish to buy. This additional allowance is sold at the same price as that applied at the airport.

Customers pay online, by credit card only. Customers can then print their receipt which includes details of their purchase and the flights concerned (the purchase of an additional baggage allowance is nominative and non-refundable).

This information is then transferred simultaneously to the customer’s reservation file, and to the staff in charge of baggage check-in.

When they arrive at the airport, customers go directly to the baggage drop-off counters to check in their baggage, with their boarding card which they have already printed.

When they make their purchase, members of the frequent flyer programme Flying Blue Silver, Gold or Platinum are immediately recognized and automatically benefit from the additional allowance granted on flights subject to the weight concept:

- Silver: 5 kg additional baggage
- Gold: 10 kg additional baggage
- Platinum: 20 kg additional baggage and free transport of one piece of standard sports equipment (golf clubs, skis, diving equipment, surfboards, bikes, etc.)
