Crerar seeks planning for St Andrews project

Crerar Hotels has now submitted its planning application to develop a new 3-4 star 80-bedroom family friendly hotel and health club at St Nicholas Park in St Andrews. The proposals would generate £10 million of investment for the local economy and create 60 jobs.

The development would bring a number of benefits to both tourists and residents, including new open park land which would be placed in trust for the community in order to be safeguarded for future generations; improved public access to the beach and a public viewing point overlooking the St Andrews skyline.  Hotel facilities such as the restaurants, health club and spa would be targeted to attract local custom along side hotel residents.

Crerar Hotels held a public exhibition on 15th and 16th June 2007 inviting local residents and interested parties to learn more about the proposals and give their views.  The proposals to place the parkland into a community trust and develop better linkage to the beach came directly from this public consultation.

Paddy Crerar, Chief Executive of Crerar Hotels, said:
“Crerar Hotels has benefited immensely from information gathered through early community engagement.  The results of our public exhibition and stakeholder meetings have enabled us to modify our proposals ahead of lodging this planning application, for instance to take into account the public’s wish to see land surrounding the hotel placed in a community trust.

“Ultimately, our intention is to provide an environmentally conscious, affordable, quality hotel which would welcome families and local residents as well as being attractive to tourists.”
