Lufthansa is interested in loss-making Alitalia that the Italian government is seeking to privatise. According to media reports the German airline is being coy about its interest to avoid affecting its share prices.
The daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported without giving a source.
Meanwhile, Air France-KLM, which publicly said it is open to talks with Alitalia, has proposed a share swap to combine the two companies, according to the daily La Stampa.
The French airline also agrees with Alitalia’s business plan, which comprises the downsizing of its presence at Milan Malpensa Airport, it said.
A draft of Air France’s proposal is currently being examined by Alitalia and the Italian government, according to the daily.
After a meeting with Alitalia, Roberto Formigoni, president of the Lombardy region, said yesterday that a list of potential buyers for Alitalia will be ready by Sept 30.
