21st Aug 2007

China Southern Airlines has revealed that it plans to buy 55 Boeing 737 aircraft to enhance its competitiveness in the country’s increasingly competitive aviation market. The news follows last weeks announcement that the Chinese government has closed the book on new domestic airlines until 2010.

According to the BBC, deliveries for the Boeing aircraft will take place between May 2011 and October 2013, in a deal that could be worth up to £2.16bn. However it is thought that the airline will aim to receive a price discount from Boeing.

China Southern currently has a fleet of over 300 aircraft, including Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
