VEGAS.com adds user-generated ads

VEGAS.com will air a collection of user-generated commercials on national television during the Travel Channel’s Vegas Weekend, Aug. 25-26. Of the nearly 50 spots VEGAS.com is running over the weekend, approximately half were submissions received during the “Direct the Next VEGAS.Commerical Contest.”

VEGAS.com, the world’s largest city travel website, conducted a contest in collaboration with the 2007 CineVegas Film Festival to attract entries from amateur or working filmmakers. Five of the more than 100 entries will be aired on the Travel Channel throughout Vegas Weekend, including the winning spot by Brian Lazzaro. VEGAS.com will also air commercials from its award-winning “Do Vegas Right” campaign.

“Travel Channel’s Vegas Weekend is the ideal place to unveil a selection of these spots to a national audience,” said VEGAS.com President Howard Lefkowitz. “Contests around user-generated content are all the rage these days, but the quantity and quality of many submissions hasn’t been great. By partnering with the CineVegas Film Festival and reaching a pool of extremely talented filmmakers, we were fortunate to receive many high-quality entries. We’re excited to share these ads with a national audience.”

“Las Vegas continues to be one of America’s favorite destinations because it offers a different experience for everyone,” said Pat Younge, President and General Manager of Travel Channel. “User-generated video will continue to play a larger role in how consumers engage travel content, and we are pleased that our partners at VEGAS.com chose ‘Travel Channel’s Vegas Weekend’ to premiere these innovative spots nationally.”

VEGAS.com will work with Lazzaro, winner of the “Direct the Next VEGAS.Commercial Contest,” to begin developing VEGAS.com’s next multimillion TV campaign later this year.
