easyJet targets silver surfers

easyJet, in partnership with Mondial UK, has removed its upper age limit on single trip travel insurance policies.

As the number of “silver surfers” - internet users over 55, rapidly increases and will soon become the largest demographic age group online, easyJet and Mondial recognise the need to change the industries discrimination towards older travellers.

In a bold new move, this makes easyJet the only low-fares airline to not only open the insurance market to travellers over 65, but to do so without putting in place a heavy levy on claims excess.

Explains Aimee Charlwood, easyJet account manager at Mondial UK: “easyJet’s Terms and Conditions are identical for every policy holder, unlike other low-cost airlines who subject over 65s to double excess when it comes to making a claim.”

The new offering means a single rate will be available from easyJet at the time of booking a flight. Customers will benefit from no stepped age bandings, giving more people access to the cover they need at a more competitive price than ever before. This further demonstrates the commitment from easyJet and Mondial to offer travellers of all ages the highest level of cover at affordable rates.

“UK internet users aged 55 and above are poised to overtake 35-44 year olds as the largest demographic age group online, yet many high street brands supplying travel insurance online, have not made it available to the over 65s,” continues Aimee Charlwood.

“Currently, older travellers struggle to find affordable cover, but with a predicted increase of 8% in this population bracket, there is a real importance to cater online for this age group.

“Working closely with easyJet, Mondial and the underwriter has created a product that allows a customer who is over 65 to purchase insurance at the time of booking without having to purchase separately after they have booked their flight at a higher premium. Now, insurance for easyJet customers over 65 will be the same price as any adult and they can also be included in group bookings of all ages. This is a great step forward in providing great value travel insurance for everyone.”

Leo Purcell, Partnerships Manager at easyJet, adds, “easyJet remains focused on continuing to lead the field in travel insurance solutions through innovative product development, intuitive online delivery and a commitment to provide great value comprehensive cover. Our partnership with Mondial and the underwriter means we can provide all our customers with the same great level of cover, in line with our values of low cost with care and convenience.”
