9th Aug 2007

Between 100 - 200 holidaymakers have fallen ill at a four-star hotel in the north coast of the Dominican Republic, according to reports.

Guests at The Bahia Principe San Juan hotel are reported to have been infected by a stomach bug, with symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting that last up to 48 hours.

The cause of the outbreak has not been determined, but according to the Tourism Ministry, the outbreak is not related to food hygiene. More details are expected to be released later today.

Baha Principe group has seven other properties on the island and also owns hotels in Mexico, Jamaica and Tenerife.
