IHG to open Colorado hotel

7th Aug 2007

A four-story 500-room Crowne Plaza hotel in Colorado Springs will open within the month.  The conversion property is the largest branded hotel in the Colorado Springs market.

“This market has a number of growing demand generators, including multiple military installations, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Olympic Training Center,” said Kevin Kowalski, senior vice president, Worldwide Brand Management, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts. “We feel the time is right to bring a meetings-focused upscale asset like Crowne Plaza to Colorado Springs.”

The hotel is conveniently located adjacent to Interstate 25, near businesses including Intel Corp., Boeing, Atmel Corporation and TechWise.  Fort Carson and Peterson Air Force Base are both just a short drive from the hotel.  Local leisure attractions include Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, Seven Falls and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

The Crowne Plaza Colorado Springs is owned by Stamford Real Estate Investments Ltd. and Harrell Hospitality Group and managed by Harrell Hospitality Group, under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group.

“We’ve invested $12 million to renovate this property to exceed Crowne Plaza brand standards,” said Jon Kranock, general manager.  “Our large room inventory and meeting space are an opportunity to attract convention business, and we’re proud to be affiliated with a meetings-savvy brand like Crowne Plaza.”

The Crowne Plaza Colorado Springs will feature the Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage program, which is available at all Crowne Plaza hotels in the Americas.  Sleep Advantage encompasses the entire sleep experience, from training staff on how to create and maintain a restful environment to providing innovative products and services. Program components include new bedding, guaranteed wake-up calls, designated quiet zones, night lights, drape clips, sleep CDs, sleep tips and amenities such as eye masks, ear plugs and lavender spray.

The Crowne Plaza Colorado Springs features 43,000 sq.-ft. of exceptional meeting space, with 28 meeting rooms, including the Summit Ballroom, which provides panoramic views of Pikes Peak.  Also consistent with the Crowne Plaza brand, the hotel offers a comprehensive meetings package to ensure a seamless planning process and exceptional meeting experience consisting of three key components: a Two-Hour Response Guarantee, Crowne Meetings Director and a Meetings Daily Debrief.

The Crowne Plaza Colorado Springs has 16 suites, including eight loft suites and a presidential suite with living and dining area.  The hotel offers an indoor pool, a fitness center, complimentary shuttle service and three dining establishments. High-speed wired and wireless Internet access is available in the hotel’s guestrooms and public spaces.

The property is located at 2886 South Circle Dr., Colorado Springs, Co. The hotel was formerly a Sheraton.
