UK court stops Heathrow protests

6th Aug 2007

Owners of Heathrow airport, BAA have won a court injunction to ban environmental protesters from staging a planned weeklong demonstration at Europe’s busiest airport. The ruling at London’s High Court said that the planned rally risked disrupting operations at Heathrow airport.

The judge also warned terrorists that the disruptions could be used as a cover to attack the airport.

The court barred Plane Stupid, a protest group lobbying for reductions in air travel, from entering the airport.

BAA said it needed to defend Heathrow and fliers from unlawful action by several environmental groups.
