EU to assess Indonesia air safety

The European Aviation Safety Agency will send a team to Indonesia in early August to get an update on aviation safety standards after all Indonesian commercial airlines were banned earlier this month from flying to the E.U. on safety grounds, the official Antara news agency reported Monday. “There was a facsimile from them yesterday… about its willingness to come here (to Indonesia),” said Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal, according to the report.

Djamal was quoted as saying the government will allow the team to audit Indonesian aviation safety standards if it’s necessary.
