United Airlines is now accepting applications for approximately 100 new pilot positions the company expects to fill this year. This is the first time since 2001 that the company has created new opportunities to add to the ranks of its world-class pilots.
“We’re investing in our business; and our expansion in international markets enables us to add to our team of the best, highly skilled professional aviators in the world,” said Captain Hank Krakowski, vice president of Flight Operations. “United’s industry-leading, advanced qualification training program ensures that our pilots are technically proficient and have also mastered the crew-based, collaborative decision making and real-world problem solving that sets United pilots apart.”
United’s six-week, scenario-based training requires captains and first officer candidates to train together as a crew, while requiring the individual candidates to demonstrate at various checkpoints throughout the training that they have mastered the same skills required of line pilots by the Federal Aviation Administration.
“Our training program, led by experienced United line pilots, mimics the real-world scenarios that require extensive experience and consummate professionalism,” Krakowski added. “The men and women who fly for United are the best of the best, and we expect our new hires will help us continue our leadership role in flight safety into the future.”
Once selected, new hire pilots will begin training at United’s state-of-the-art Flight Training Center in Denver as early as October and will be flying by the end of the year.
