Austrian starts flights to Astana

The Austrian Airlines Group continues to expand its route network: Starting on September 4th, 2007, the company will incorporate the capital city of Kazakhstan Astana into its schedule with three new flights a week. The flights will be operated with a Boeing 737-700 in cooperation with Air Astana. The Vienna hub will provide perfect connections into the Austrian Airlines Group’s global route network for the passengers.

Austrian Chief Commercial Officer Dr. Josef E. Burger about the new destination: ‘In Astana, we are opening up another thriving region in Central Asia with sustainable growth potential. In this way, we are consistently extending our Focus East strategy and are expanding our scope of action in the East in the newly independent states of Central Asia. Our target audience for this route in particular are international business travellers who use our dense route network to travel from Western or Eastern Europe, the Middle East or North America to Kazakhstan and those moving in the opposite direction. In this way, we strengthen our transfer traffic while at the same time underlining our leading role as a specialist and pioneer in the East once again.’
