26th Jun 2007

According to press reports, the UK may have to renegotiate the job cuts proposed by Airbus following the change in the French presidency. The BBC reports that a committee of MP’s is warning that any attempt to revise the cost-cutting plans for the company may lead to the UK having to bear more job cuts.

Airbus had announced 10,000 job losses in it’s cost-cutting plan with the UK due to lose about 1,500 posts. France and Germany were bearing the brunt of the changes. However, since France has subsequently elected Nicolas Sarkozy, a vocal supporter of Airbus, as its new president. the chances of renegotiation seem very real.
