Zoom launches Gatwick-US flights

Zoom Airlines Ltd., the UK sister company to Canada’s premiere low cost, full service, transatlantic airline, announced today that it is landing in the United States. The low-fare, full- service airline will operate daily flights from New York’s JFK Airport to London Gatwick for $199.00 each way, excluding taxes. And, as a special promotion, flights departing from JFK between June 22 - July 13, 2007, will be offered for $99.00 one way, with taxes included.

Unlike competitors, Zoom’s booking service features flexible one-way fares with no restrictions (such as the need to stay a Saturday night in either city). The New York to London flights will offer economy and premium economy services, including full meals and in-flight entertainment at no extra cost. Zoom will operate using Boeing 767-300 aircraft with a seat pitch of 31” in Economy and 36” in Premium Economy, comparable to other major carriers on the route.

“Finding low-cost transatlantic flights is a challenge for U.S. consumers in today’s marketplace, with no affordable alternative to British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Delta and others,” said Zoom co-owner, Hugh Boyle. “Zoom’s goal is to become the leading low-cost transatlantic airline offering consumers an excellent and affordable alternative to today’s options by providing the same Economy and Premium Economy services at a savings of up to 65 percent.”

The new Zoom Airlines route will operate between JFK’s Terminal 4 and the South Terminal at London Gatwick. Flights will leave daily from New York City at 5:30pm. Return flights will leave London at 1:00pm.

Zoom has operated full-service, low-cost flights from Canada to the UK for the last three years and has been granted permission to operate from London Gatwick as an official UK carrier to the United States along with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. The flights will take off nearly a year ahead of any potential Open Skies deals, which could lead to more low-cost flights offered out of the United States by Zoom.

Zoom will initially operate five flights per week direct from New York to London and two off-peak services via Bermuda. Premium Economy seats can be booked for an additional $179 one-way, offering consumers additional legroom and quicker check-in, as well as luggage and in-flight meal and beverage benefits.
