Austrian takes on Do & Do catering

From 15 June onwards passengers throughout the Austrian Airlines Group will now be dining on the exclusive DO&CO catering service.DO&CO will also be responsible for meeting the culinary needs of guests at Austrian Lounges at Vienna International Airport in future. The new move sees the airline reach another major milestone in its quality and service offensive.

Chief Executive Officer Alfred ?-tsch said the following at the presentation of DO&CO catering: ‘Our guests will not only have the opportunity to enjoy the new DO&CO catering from 15 June, but also notice innovative new details on a regular basis. DO&CO is well-known for setting innovations throughout the industry, recognising trends and developing its catering in a highly creative manner. This includes inspired visual presentation as well as charming and sometimes surprising details. Although a great deal will be changing on a step-by-step basis, the typically Austrian character and specific national focuses in the catering will continue to be central to the inflight service of the Austrian Airlines Group. This will enable us to offer our passengers ‘gourmet entertainment’ in addition to gastronomy of the highest standard, putting clear blue sky between ourselves and the competition.’

The new elements will be introduced successively in an effort to ensure that passengers discover ever more innovative details over the coming months.

Passengers can expect to find a wide-ranging and impressive range of dishes - with a distinct freshness kick - when on board. Guests will be treated to typically Austrian delicacies and specific national specialities, particularly on routes to India, China and Japan. This inflight ‘Gourmet Entertainment’ will be rounded off by a wide-ranging selection of bread and rolls and Austrian wines. Just in time for the summer season, a refreshing iced coffee is to be added to the popular ‘Viennese coffee house above the clouds’, a product provided on Austrian Business Class long-haul flights with great success since August 2006.

The appealing presentation has been designed to provide a feast for the eyes. There are also new elements to the presentation: menus on all flights in Business Class and those lasting over 2 hours 30 minutes flight time in Economy Class will be a visual pleasure, having been designed using the unique caricatures from Erich Sokol’s ‘Geniesser-Serie’ (‘Connoisseur Series’).

On top of this, those small but all-important details such as the cutlery roll have been redesigned, emphasising the quality of the dishes with the DO&CO brand. DO&CO is the only airline caterer to come from the world of premier league gastronomy, by the way.

A range of small visual changes have been made to the Austrian Lounges at Vienna Airport. It is well-known that we eat with our eyes, and the way in which the self-service range is presented has been reworked and designed to be more appealing. Waiting times for Austrian specialities and freshly-produced hot dishes will be shortened, for instance. The culinary range on offer to passengers will be upgraded with a wide-ranging selection of bread and rolls.

Austrian Airlines has implemented a consistent quality and service offensive in the course of the past year. This had its roots in the newly introduced service and comfort elements in Business Class, which include the installation of comfortable lie-flat sleeper seats on Austrian long-haul flights, introduction of the Viennese Coffee House service and use of «flying« chefs to refine the gourmet menus on board. A free snack service with typically Austrian cold and hot delicacies was also introduced in late autumn 2006.

Other product elements including classical boarding music, the ‘most valuable boarding pass in the world’ and a special focus on the needs of kids and families make travelling with Austrian a truly unique experience.
