Southern Sun scoops World Travel Award

Southern Sun’s position as one of Africa’s top hotel groups has been further enhanced after winning ‘Africa’s Leading Hotel Brand’ at the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA). Southern Sun, who recently opened two four star deluxe hotels in Dubai, were presented with the coveted award at a glittering ceremony at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Hailed as the ‘Oscars of the travel industry’, the WTA winners are voted by travel agents worldwide.

‘We are delighted to be recognised as Africa’s leading hotel brand and this award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication that goes into making Southern Sun one of the leading hotel groups in the world,’ said Richard Weilers, Managing Director, Southern Sun Middle East.

‘Southern Sun is expanding at a tremendous pace and we are proud to have successfully launched in the Middle East, a market which holds wonderful potential for us and one in which we believe the Southern Sun brand will grow to become among the most recognised and trusted in the region.’

Southern Sun expanded its operations into the Middle East for the first time in January this year when it opened the Al Manzil and Qamardeen Hotels in Dubai’s prestigious 500-acre Downtown Burj Dubai development.

Located in Downtown Burj Dubai’s Old Town, the hotels are in close proximity to Burj Dubai, billed to be the world’s tallest tower when completed in 2008.

Southern Sun’s rapid growth in the Middle East has also continued with an agreement to manage and operate the prestigious Plantation Hotel and Spa.

Southern Sun will take on the full operations of this unique boutique Hotel and Spa which will also incorporate signature restaurants within Dubailand’s soon-to-be equestrian community.
