Sabre adds Japan rail content

Sabre Connected travel agents are now able to book rail travel in eastern Japan through the Sabre GDS (global distribution system). The development follows an agreement between rail consolidator AccesRail and Japan Rail East for distribution of various passes valid for travel on all of the company’s 72 routes.

The Japan Rail East passes sold through the Sabre system are the Flexi Pass (valid for four days in any month), and the five- or ten-day Consecutive Pass.

Agents earn eight percent commission on every sale.

“Booking these Japan Rail East passes in the Sabre GDS is now as easy as creating an airline ticket,” said Susanne Knobel, Sabre Travel Network director of supplier relations.

Japan Rail East will accept Sabre-issued tickets in exchange for the passes. No special equipment, booking screens or training is required.
