Clickair starts daily Edinburgh-Barcelona flights

clickair, which pioneered true low cost scheduled air services to Spain from London Heathrow earlier this year, is expanding to Scotland.  From 1 August it will launch daily flights from Edinburgh to Barcelona, clickair’s home city.

Departures from Edinburgh will be at 10.30am, arriving from Barcelona at 09:45am.

Tickets go on sale today at www.clickair.com and through travel agents, with fares from as little as €20, one way, all taxes included.

The route will be operated by dedicated Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring 180 soft-leather Recaro seats.

“We are delighted to add Scotland to our list of destinations”, said clickair CEO, Alex Cruz.

“Edinburgh is a great complement to our existing London services, our two regions are especially close and we are proud to offer all kinds of travellers - business people, tourists and students alike - a product they can tailor to their needs.  We want to cover the huge existing demand in Scotland for Barcelona, the Mediterranean city combining the best in culture, architecture and leisure.”

VisitScotland area director for Edinburgh and Lothians, Ben Carter, said:  “We are very pleased to welcome the new clickair route from Barcelona to Edinburgh.  Spain is one of our key markets and this direct route will help boost the inbound traffic from this important region.”

David Johnston, Managing Director of BAA Edinburgh Airport, said:  “This new daily service to Barcelona gives our passengers even greater choice and flexibility.  We are delighted to welcome clickair to Edinburgh and look forward to working together to ensure the success of this route, which we are certain will prove very popular.”

Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city with a Mediterranean climate.  To the one side, the mountains overlook the city and to the other is the picturesque harbour with its statue of Columbus.  Barcelona boasts more than 200 years’ history in its artistic and cultural heritage and is world-renowned for its stunning Gaudi architecture, including the majestic Sagrada Familia.  Beautiful squares and fountains are around every corner and traditional Catalan cuisine can be enjoyed in the many fine restaurants.

This new clickair route joins its existing UK flights connecting Seville, Valencia and La Coruna with London and Barcelona with Dublin.

“The clickair route network is expanding rapidly and I look forward to announcing further developments to our UK and Ireland markets soon.” added Cruz.
