Air France-KLM is studying the possibility of taking symbolic equity stakes in struggling Delta and Northwest, according to La Tribune on Friday. The European airline’s goal would be to gain a seat on the U.S. companies’ respective boards and reinforce its link with the U.S. airlines.

Ultimately, the French-Dutch airline would seek to create a joint venture with the partners to share costs and revenues on transatlantic routes, according to the newspaper.
