Amadeus boosts low cost carrier presence

VivaAerobus, based in Mexico, and AerOasis, based in Colombia, have signed agreements to adopt Amadeus’ customer management IT solution (CMS)  for low cost carriers.
These two signatures bring to six, the number of airlines secured for the platform in just 12 months. Both carriers will benefit from the integrated solution which efficiently manages customer processes from booking to baggage collection, in a way that supports revenue growth and expansion.

According to Mike Szucs, CEO, VivaAerobus: “We have significant growth predictions in the coming years and we must therefore be able to scale and adapt. We are growing into new markets where we will need to explore innovative booking and payment methodologies, along with increasing regulatory demands on aspects such as immigration. With Amadeus, we have the confidence that they will be able to work with us to support the customer needs in these new markets and most importantly, be able to deliver these solutions in line with our cost expectations.”

The low cost carrier market is characterised by explosive growth and expansion that requires a flexible, customer management solution, able to adapt to dynamic business models. Amadeus’ LCC-specific CMS platform, designed with this in mind, comprises of sales, web, call centre, inventory and departure control functionality, that supports all types of carriers, irrespective of size or geography.

Norwegian Air Shuttle (NAS), Norway’s leading low cost carrier, implemented the Amadeus LCC - specific CMS platform in 2006. Hans-Petter Aanby, CIO for the airline says: “The robustness and performance of the Amadeus platform enabled us to adapt our systems to meet our commercial needs. The versatility of the system, compared to our legacy system, has ensured that we now have a clear upgrade and development path that will meet both our current and future needs.”

Frédéric Spagnou, Vice-President, Airline Business Group, Amadeus points out: “The breadth and diversity of our LCC customer base clearly testifies to the fact that our solutions are able to meet the most pressing needs of carriers in this segment today: flexibility, scalability and cost-effectiveness. The success of low cost carriers to date has been based on their understanding of customer needs. As these needs evolve, the carriers need to be able to rely on their systems to deliver and support the services necessary for growth.”
