Air Berlin has acquired carrier LTU for 140 million euros. The German airline will also assume between 190 and 200 million euros of LTU’s debt.The aim, according to news reports, is for LTU to remain a legally independent company within the Air Berlin group.

This means the carrier will have its own management and its own name “in the foreseeable future”, according to Air Berlin.

Air Berlin has also said that it will purchase a 49 percent stake in Switzerland’s Belair, a unit of the Hotelplan group.
