Continental boosts Scotland, Newark flights

Continental Airlines is increasing flight frequency on its non-stop services from Edinburgh and Glasgow to New York/Newark.

Effective 4 May 2007 (westbound), Edinburgh will be served by a twice-daily service to New York/Newark - in place of the current single, daily service - and effective 6 May 2007 (westbound), Glasgow will be served by 11 flights per week, also up from seven departures.

After the 28 October 2007, Continental will return to a single, daily service from Edinburgh to New York/Newark and Glasgow to New York/Newark for the winter season.
Bob Schumacher, Continental Airlines’ Senior Director U.K. & Ireland, said:  “We are delighted to expand our Scotland operation.  The additional services will make it more convenient than ever for the Scottish business and leisure traveller to access not only New York, but the whole of America from both Edinburgh and Glasgow.”

In addition, BusinessFirst passengers flying to and from Scotland can now enjoy Audio/Video on Demand (AVOD) in-flight entertainment with a choice of up to 25 movies, 25 short-subject programmes and 50 compact discs. AVOD systems will be installed in Economy Class beginning this summer, with each passenger benefiting from their own individual video screen.

The new flight schedules in Edinburgh and Glasgow have been conveniently timed to connect at New York/Newark with an extensive range of services throughout the U.S.A., Canada and Latin America.  Continental is the only major airline to operate a hub in the New York City metropolitan area - Newark Liberty International Airport.  Located just 16 miles from downtown Manhattan, Liberty International offers the fastest surface transfer journeys to many parts of the city, including the AirTrain service to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan.

For passengers seeking an even faster transfer, Continental Airlines has recently launched two eight-minute helicopter services - in partnership with US Helicopter - which take passengers from Terminal C,  Continental Airlines’ Global Gateway, Newark Liberty International Airport to either Downtown Manhattan Heliport on Wall Street or the East 34th Street Heliport in Midtown Manhattan.

Passengers arriving at Liberty International on Continental flights from Edinburgh can use exclusive immigration and customs facilities in Terminal C3, Continental’s Global Gateway, and connect quickly and easily with Continental’s 407 daily services from Liberty International to more than 230 destinations throughout the Americas, including more than 120 served non-stop.

Continental has been operating out of Scotland since 1998. Continental operates non-stop flights to the U.S.A from nine airports in the U.K. and Ireland, more than any other airline.  Continental’s U.K. reservations number is 0845 60 767 60.
