Jetstar, AIG launch web travel insurance

Jetstar and AIG Australia have formed a strategic alliance to offer Jetstar customers an affordable web based travel insurance solution to seamlessly add to their purchased flight itineraries. The online insurance offering comes as Jetstar continues development of its “one stop shop” for online travel related products at Jetstar.com, consistently one of Australia’s most popular travel websites.

During 2006, Jetstar launched Jetstar holidays through Jetstar.com and its web portal remains a key plank in its distribution of both domestic and international fares and travel products.

Jetstar and AIG Australia will offer Jetcover Travel Insurance for $AU9 dollars per passenger per trip as a simple add-on to a Jetstar online domestic flight purchase at Jetstar.com.

Jetcover travel insurance covers Jetstar cancellation fees, checked baggage, trip delay expenses, resumption of journey and other specified items all in the event of unforseen circumstances.*

It will be extended in the near future to provide cover for Jetstar international travel.

Jetstar Group General Manager of Commercial, Bruce Buchanan, said the alliance with AIG Australia would provide enhanced consumer choice for the optional product as part of an ‘all in one’ travel purchase with Jetstar.

“Travel insurance is seen by many as an intrinsic part of the travel experience so it was important that Jetstar joined forces with a provider such as AIG Australia to provide travel insurance to our ever expanding passenger base,” Mr Buchanan said.

“Jetstar.com now receives over 2.4 million unique visitors per month and online traffic has grown over 750 per cent in under 3 years at Jetstar.com so we believe there is clear market for this new service.

“Gone will be the arduous task of filling out separate application forms. This is insurance made easy, with the policy and information available at the click of a mouse while you book your travel.”

Mr Ron Wodson, Regional Accident and Health Manager AIG Australasia said, “Working together with Jetstar to develop a product to meet customer requirements has been fundamental to delivering a leading edge insurance solution.

“We look forward to a continuing relationship with Jetstar and to achieving success in the online travel arena,” Mr Wodson said.
