The Rezidor Hotel Group is signing a new partnership with The CarbonNeutral Company, the world’s leading carbon offset and climate consulting business. This new partnership will offer all guests staying at a Rezidor Hotel the opportunity to offset greenhouse gas emissions caused by their travels and hotel stay, thus making their entire trip CarbonNeutral. The Rezidor Hotel Group operates Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, Regent Hotels & Resorts, Park Inn and Country Inns & Suites in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
To take advantage of this new program and help combat global warming, guests can join Rezidor’s free loyalty program, Goldpoints Plussm, and allocate a portion of their points towards offsetting greenhouse gas emissions. A one-night stay at a Radisson SAS Hotel collects approximately 3,000 Gold Points, while only 1,000 Gold Points are needed to offset 100 kg of carbon dioxide - the amount of emissions emitted during a two- to five-night stay at a hotel, including travel by train. The Goldpoints Plus program is open to all hotel guests staying at a Rezidor hotel, and members can decide whether to participate and how many points they would like to allocate to the program. This initiative is part of Rezidor’s award-winning Responsible Business program, and will be officially launched on March 1, 2007.
As part of the new partnership, The CarbonNeutral Company has measured the amount of greenhouse gases produced from Rezidor’s operations, including fuel, energy consumption and waste. The carbon dioxide output from all Rezidor operations will be offset by donating money to emission reducing projects which save the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide. Projects Rezidor is currently participating in include a wind power project in India, energy efficiency projects in Jamaica and methane capturing projects in the U.S.
This new partnership is one of many environmentally responsible programs that The Rezidor Hotel Group currently participates in through the company’s Responsible Business Program. To minimize their impact on global warming, Rezidor has had an energy management program in place since 2001, which includes initiatives such as quarterly measuring and reporting of energy consumption at the company’s hotels and on the corporate level. In 2006 alone, the energy consumption for Rezidor per square meter was reduced by eight percent in comparison to the year 2005. Energy efficient lighting, sensors, timers and key-card activated light switches have currently been installed in all rooms in more than 70 percent of all Rezidor hotels. As a way of actively researching alternative energy solutions, numerous hotels have installed solar panels and others incorporate renewable energy solutions. This year, The Rezidor Hotel Group has already offset the carbon dioxide emissions of its recent hotel managers’ annual conference, as well as those of its corporate offices through planting trees and renewable energy projects.
