RJ wins gold for best website

Royal Jordanian was awarded gold for the best website in the category ‘transportation’ in Jordan during a ceremony held by Jordan Web Awards 2006 Competition.

Jordan Arab Awards 2006 winners are qualified to compete with winners from other Arab countries for the prestigious Pan Arab Awards 2007, to be held in Dubai this coming March.

Jordan Web Awards was created to recognize excellence in web design and development skills. The event aims to bring together web design companies, freelancers and web owners in a competition for the best websites in each of the 21 different categories, including banking, communication, transportation, journalism, sports, travel and tourism.

Vice President/ Marketing, Sales and Services Hussein Dabbas said that the company recently revamped its website, www.rj.com , with a view to making it the major marketing and communication tool. The portal is designed to facilitate complete travel needs. It offers travelers various options, services and facilities, serving as a flight reservation and Internet booking engine, helping purchase e-tickets, printing out boarding passes, and giving information on flight schedules.

The airline is now collaborating with a leading local web design company to make the website accessible in Arabic, French, Spanish and German, in addition to English. This will grant the website visitors from all over the world easier access, enabling those who wish to make easy use of the airline’s simplified services. “The move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the services it provides its customers in air and on ground,” said Dabbas.

He pointed out that the website also features in-depth information about RJ’s growing fleet of aircraft, its history and progress in services through interactive animation and virtual tours. Visitors can also learn about the various destinations served by RJ, ticket fares and the frequent flyer program through dedicated pages on the website, while getting real time information, like currency exchange rates and weather forecasts. The website will be connected to oneworld’s website as soon as RJ officially joins the alliance’s members at the end of March this year.

Yola Isaac, marketing director at Royal Jordanian, received the gold prize from Zeid Nasser, chief executive of MediaScope, the ceremony organizer. Nasser said that experts in web designing and programming from different Arab countries ran the arbitration of the event, which took into account different criteria, like creativity, ease of use, structure, visual design solution and interactivity.
