Parker comments on Us Airways-Delta merger

New York travelers will see competitive fares and enhanced global service in a US Airways-Delta merger-allowing for a more financially secure airline for employees of both-US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker told U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer in a letter.
Responding to questions from Schumer, Parker said, “Our new airline will continue to fly to every city currently served by the two airlines today. Customers in those cities will have convenient service to a broader range of destinations on one airline, in one frequent flyer program.
“Our $1.65 billion in synergies creates efficiencies and savings that will allow us to offer more reasonable fares to consumers. It simply doesn’t follow that consolidation should or will lead to higher fares, and we have our own track record - nationally and in New York - to prove it,” continued Parker.

US Airways is the fifth largest domestic airline employing nearly 35,000 aviation professionals worldwide. US Airways, US Airways Shuttle and US Airways Express operate approximately 3,800 flights per day and serve more than 230 communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. The new US Airways—the product of a merger between America West and US Airways in September 2005—is a member of the Star Alliance, which provides connections for our customers to 841 destinations in 157 countries worldwide.
