Beirut airport reopens after protests

The Beirut international airport reopened early Wednesday after a day of near-total disruption of activities due to violent street protests during a nationwide opposition strike, airport sources told Agence France Presse. “The first flight took off to Milan, and there are about 15 other scheduled flights,” said one airport source.

“Activities at the airport have now resumed to normal and all employees are at work,” he said.

“All passengers who had been stranded at the airport throughout the day Tuesday went back home last night after the roads were cleared,” he added.
