AirTran reports record traffic for 2006

AirTran Airways reported record traffic results for the full year 2006 as well as December 2006 and the Fourth Quarter. The airline reported that revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and passengers enplaned represent company records for December and the quarter, while available seat miles (ASMs) represent an all-time record for December and the quarter.

For the year, AirTran Airways traffic grew 22.4 percent on a capacity increase of 23.7 percent, and the load factor was 72.8 percent. The airline has enplaned a record number of passengers with 20,051,219 boardings this year, an increase of 20.5 percent from 2005.

For the Fourth Quarter, AirTran Airways traffic grew 16.1 percent on a capacity increase of 20.2 percent, and the load factor was 69.0 percent. The airline enplaned 5,017,232 passengers during the Fourth Quarter, an increase of 14.3 percent from Fourth Quarter 2005.

For December, traffic grew by 20.2 percent to over 1.2 billion RPMs on an increase of 19.4 percent in capacity, and the load factor was 70.4 percent. The airline enplaned more than 1.7 million passengers in the month of December, a 16.6 percent increase from December 2005.
