Record numbers taking Christmas abroad

A scorching summer of 2006 has certainly left Brits with a taste
for the sun as Thomas Cook reports record numbers are set to head to
sunnier shores this Christmas. As the winter chill sets in, Thomas Cook has seen a surge of sun seekers
snapping up great winter getaways deals for the festive season.  Whether
it’s to avoid the cold, the hassle or even the in-laws, it appears that
couples, friends and families alike are now opting to spend Christmas
abroad so they can guarantee themselves a stress free and relaxing
Christmas.

The hot favourites this year include Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote,
Egypt, Morocco, Fuerteventura and Cuba - popular destinations offering
year round sunshine, value for money and a great variety of
accommodation ranging from basic for the budget conscious to the
ultimate in luxury for the lavish.

Robert Burgess, Executive Director, Sales & Distribution at Thomas Cook
said: ‘Going abroad for Christmas has definitely become more popular
this year.  Across the UK, our high street stores, online and our sales
centres have all seen a sudden rush of people wanting to book.  It
appears that many have taken advantage of the extra days off work, the
great deals on offer and decided to celebrate this year with a holiday
to really make the most out of Christmas.’
