Austrian adds free hot snacks

Following positive responses from passsengers, Austrian Airlines is adding hot snacks to it’s existing free snack service.
Emphasising the far-reaching Austrian commitment to quality, Chief Executive Officer Alfred ?-tsch today made the following statement: ‘We shall continue to improve the rating of our quality offensive. This began with our installation of the new lie-flat sleeper seats in long-haul Business Class, the Vienna coffee house service and the chefs on board, and continued with our free Snack Service in Economy Class and the playing of classical music as passengers board their flights. The reaction of passengers to our new Economy Class service has been excellent, and we shall be expanding it further still from tomorrow onwards when we also introduce hot snacks free of charge.’

Austrian Airlines is expanding its recently introduced free Snack Service from 14 December onwards. As of that date, a hot meal will also be served in Economy Class on all short- and medium-haul flights with a flight time of between 80 and 150 minutes. Like the cold snacks included in the Snack Service, Austrian will create these in partnership with award-winning Austrian chef Helmut ?-sterreicher. The Snack Service is based on fresh and innovative Austrian cuisine, and contains a range of pleasant surprises in the shape of typically Austrian delicacies such as fine tafelspitz, schinkenfleckerln, filling fleischlaibchen and - amongst the choice of desserts - kaiserschmarrn. The dishes vary according to the day and time of departure, with the selection being conceived in such a way that it provides even frequent flyers with a wealth of choice.

Peter Baumgartner, EVP for Customer Services & Product Development made the following statement about the new offer: ‘With our Austrian Snack Box, we are seeking to indulge our guests not only with a range of delicious snacks, but also with fresh, charming design. This service concept consciously focuses on high quality and is a key component of our wide-ranging quality offensive. The Austrian touch, which we consistently emphasise on board our aircraft, enables passengers to experience the Austrian lifestyle and cuisine even when above the clouds.’

Austrian introduced its new Snack Service on 16 November. Depending on the time and day of departure, the Snack Service consists of a freshly prepared breakfast or daytime meal, and is served in the ‘Austrian Snack Box’ on all international flights with a flight time lasting between approximately 65 and 150 minutes. To complement the product, Austrian offers a selection of alcoholic, non-alcoholic and hot drinks that is wide-ranging compared to other European airlines. On all domestic and ‘ultra-short-haul’ flights (those with a flight time lasting up to approximately 65 minutes), passengers in Economy Class can enjoy a ‘Refreshment Service’, with sweet and savoury snacks offered from a basket by the flight attendant. Coffee, tea and water are also provided as refreshment.
