13th Dec 2006

Thomas Cook could face a break-up should KarstadtQuelle AG acquire Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s 50 pct stake in the tour operator and become its sole owner, Financial Times Deutschland reported citing company sources. It added that, following a takeover, KarstadtQuelle CEO Thomas Middelhoff will most likely sell Thomas Cook’s airline Condor and sell off other units.

Thomas Cook is a 50-50 joint venture between Deutsche Lufthansa and KarstadtQuelle.

KarstadtQuelle has iterated several times that it would like to raise its stake in Thomas Cook.
