Austrian Malanik chairs Star Alliance

The Chief Executive Board of the Star Alliance has decided during its meeting on 9 December 2006 in Istanbul to appoint Dr. Peter Malanik, 45, as Chairman of the Alliance Management Board.Dr. Malanik takes over his new function from Graham Atkinson, EVP Chief Customer Officer of United Airlines.

The Alliance Management Board (AMB) is the powerful and innovative engine behind the ongoing dynamic development of the world’s largest airline alliance. The body takes all operative decisions and prepares strategic concepts for the decision-making of the Chief Executive Board. The AMB also functions as the Supervisory Board of Star Alliance GmbH, the Frankfurt-based project office of the Alliance.

Dr. Peter Malanik has been in service with Austrian Airlines since 1985, and today, as the Group’s Executive Vice President and General Secretary, manages the Division for International Relations and Alliances, Legal Issues, Human Resources and Organisation. Dr. Peter Malanik issued the following statement on his new function within the Star Alliance: ‘It is a hugely exciting task for me to work with representatives of the most renowned airlines from around the world as they dedicate themselves to the dynamic development of the largest global airline alliance in an effort to benefit their customers and members. The Star Alliance is a role model for outstanding cooperation between market competitors in a sector of industry, as we continue to employ our mutual creativity to set trends in commercial aviation.’
