The first five-star hotel Le Royal Meridien in China has been inaugurated in Shanghai recently, according to China Business Daily News. The luxury hotel is located in People’s Square, Puxi District, and it has 770 rooms, 10 restaurants and 2,000-square meter conference room.
China’s booming hotel sector spurs Le Royal Meridien to shift its focus to the market there, and it will spread wings to other coastal or inland cities like Hainan and Beijing after establishment of businesses in Shanghai.
In a move to maintain rarities and quality, Le Royal Meridien will stop expansion in the Chinese market if it has around 15 hotels in the country during the following five to ten years, said Eva Ziegler, Senior Vice President for Le Meridien brand of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
In November last year, Le Meridien She Shan Shanghai opened for trial business, marking the first step of Meridien Group in China’s mainland market.
