Northwest builds on Korean deal

Northwest Airlines has announced it will expand its code-share relationship with
Korean Air, benefiting customers traveling on seven international routes
operated by Korean Air and six U.S. domestic routes operated by Northwest. The new code-share flights will expand the global networks of both carriers by opening up hundreds of new travel options for customers. Routes operated by Korean Air that will also be marked with the two-letter “NW” Northwest code are between Seoul, South Korea and Seattle, Chicago, Tokyo and Osaka, Japan; along with Korean Air’s flight between Tokyo and Los Angeles. Northwest will also code-share on Korean Air-operated flights between Busan, South Korea and Tokyo, and Busan and Osaka.

Routes operated by Northwest that will also include the Korean Air two letter “KE” code are between Chicago and Detroit, Memphis, Tenn. and Minneapolis/St.Paul; along with the flight between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Korean Air’s code will also appear on Northwest-operated flights between Seattle and Detroit, and Seattle and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

The new routes will augment the initial Northwest and Korean Air code-share, started in July 2005 between Los Angeles and Northwest’s hub in Memphis.

“We are pleased to be expanding our existing passenger and cargo cooperation with Korean Air on these new routes. These further links between Northwest’s extensive domestic and Pacific network and Korean Air’s core Pacific strength enable us to offer a worldwide seamless travel experience to our customers,” said Nathaniel Pieper, Northwest’s vice president - alliances.

Code-sharing allows Northwest to offer its customers the expanded reach of two airlines while enjoying the convenience of flying on one airline.
