Press: Germany pushes air emissions trading

German Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee is in favour of advancing plans to include the aviation industry in the European Union’s emissions trading scheme, Handelsblatt newspaper reports Tuesday. Tiefensee tells the paper airlines from third countries should also be obliged to participate in emissions trading if they fly to destinations within the E.U.

The German government plans to advance these plans when it takes over the six-month rotating E.U. presidency for the first half of 2007, Handelsblatt adds.
