Borat boosts Kazakhstan hotel searches

As Borat mania sweeps the nation, Hotels.com has experienced a 300% rise in Kazakhstan Hotel searches amongst travellers keen to experience Borat’s home country.

Kazakhstan, a country relatively unknown until Borat stormed into cinemas on November 3rd, has been ‘put on the map’ by the film. Sacha Baren Cohen’s ‘Borat’ is Kazakh television’s top media personality, and the film follows his journey to the US to create “Borat’s Guide to the USA.”

Hotels.com portfolio of Kazakhstan hotels currently includes the Hyatt Regency Almaty, Best Eastern Otrar, Almaty, Premier Alatau Hotel, and the Best Eastern Ambassador Almaty. However, this number is set to increase following the surge of interest in Kazakh hotels.

Alison Couper, Director of Communications at Hotels.com says: “Following the surge of Kazakhstan hotel searches on Hotels.com since the film was released; we are looking to expanding our Kazakh hotel portfolio and expect bookings to increase considerably.”
