Virgin expands SIA co-operation deal

Virgin Atlantic has expanded its co-operation with Singapore Airlines to enable its passengers to enjoy more choice when they fly between Australia, the UK, the United States, the Middle East and Singapore.  From 1 December 2006, Singapore Airlines’ passengers can fly via London to Los Angeles, San Francisco or Dubai on Virgin Atlantic services and from the 1 January 2007 Virgin Atlantic passengers will be able to travel on Singapore Airlines’ services between London and Sydney via Singapore.

The expansion of the codeshare agreement is the latest in a series of commercial arrangements between the two airlines that include a reciprocal frequent flyer relationship, a joint lounge access agreement and round-the-world-fares.

Willy Boulter, Virgin Atlantic’s Commercial Director, commented:
“We are delighted to announce this extended codeshare with Singapore Airlines.  The agreement offers passengers greater flexibility and connections to more destinations, together with fantastic value and excellent standards of service throughout their journey.”

Singapore Airlines’ Executive Vice President Marketing & the Regions, Mr Huang Cheng Eng commented:
“The expansion of the codeshare arrangements with Virgin Atlantic, our equity partner, reflects our commitment to offer our customers greater flexibility when planning their travel itineraries by offering them more choice of flights. I am also delighted to note that our commercial ties with Virgin Atlantic are growing rapidly.”

The present codeshare agreement allows Virgin Atlantic passengers to travel on Singapore Airlines’ services between London and Singapore and Manchester and Singapore.  Passengers of Singapore Airlines can travel on Virgin Atlantic’s services between Boston, Washington and Miami via London, and between Manchester and Orlando.

Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic will continue to offer reciprocal privileges to the members of their respective frequent flyer programmes, meaning that miles accrued on either airline can be used to fly on the other airline.
Virgin Atlantic won World’s Leading Inflight Entertainment award at this year’s World Travel Awards.
